They have 5 children and were living in a partial block, lamina and cornstalk home with cardboard and plastic to help keep out the cold.  Their home was damp, cold and the floors were always wet during the rainy season which is 6 months out of the year here.  They have no electricity or running water.  Manuel works hard in the fields and makes enough to buy food and barely get by.  They live in a pretty remote area and we met them when working on another home outside of our village.  We learned that their older daughter, Mirna wanted to go to middle school but the family really could not afford it so we helped her with that.  Most kids here don't go past 6th grade for financial reasons.  In that, we developed a relationship with this family and got to know them better.  They really are a sweet family and Manuel is a good father and works hard to provide for his family.  Sadly though, it would never be enough to improve their living conditions.

Thankfully, they have a new home that is warmer and dryer and they LOVE it!  They cannot express how grateful they are to their donors and to God for this huge blessing.  We had a team of college students here and they painted the house and celebrated with the family.  It was a sweet time!
